Casa Jardim is a Queenslander reimagined. The home combines the architect’s South American exuberance for life with an easy Queensland aesthetic, to warmly embrace the Auchenflower community. Brisbane’s western suburbs are famous for their hilly, tree-lined streets, so the original cottage was raised to create a principal ground floor underneath and resolve the sloping block. The front of the home presents a patio fringed by vines that cascade from the second level. A place for the residents to sit and engage with smiling passers-by (who often stop for a chat). Follow the cross-breezes through, and the elegant flow of the home leads naturally to the pool and entertaining area, a private inner-city escape tucked away in the generous backyard. Thoughtful design around dual-purpose social spaces creates a setting for each time of the day while also meeting a responsibility to design with efficiency. Materials and finishes are faithful to the timeless Queenslander style.
